Birth Certificates issued through the Civil Registration System are now available on DigiLocker
DigiLocker is now issuing birth certificates for children born after August 2015. Certificates that are issued through the Civil Registration System (CRS) Portal are integrated with DigiLocker. Registered users of DigiLocker will now be able to get certificates online.
DigiLocker launched in 2015, serving as a document wallet that eliminates the need for physical documents. Also, it provides an ease to citizens from standing in a long queue to receive their essential documents.

The several States such as Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal register all births and deaths through the Central government’s portal. The other States such as Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Arunachal Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh have their system or use the portal partially. The Union Territories (UTs) such as Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu register through the Central portal. Still, others such as Delhi, Lakshadweep, Puducherry and Jammu and Kashmir have their own system in place.
How to Get a Birth Certificate Using a DigiLocker Account?
- Sign in to your DigiLocker account using your Aadhaar registered mobile no. and PIN. You will get OTP. Enter OTP and click on Submit.
- Go to State Government categories.
- Select Birth Certificate.
- Fill in the details Name (as per Aadhaar), Date of Birth, Gender, and Registration Number.
- By marking the checkbox, give consent to share your details with the issuers for fetching documents.
- Click on Get Document.
